Stickers, badges, and product photography

Just wrapped up a huge product that had me shooting product samples for the website of a Wisconsin company that specializes in heat-transfer stickers and die-cut badges such as the logos you find on bicycles. I really enjoyed photographing the great-looking products and delivered 75 finals to the client with many options for them to choose from.

Did you use a macro lens for this, and do you actually need a macro lens to capture decal/sticker photography?

Yes, I did use a macro lens for these. It is necessary for the smaller stickers but probably not needed for a sticker over 7″ or so. In that case the minimum focusing distance of the lens should be adequate to fill the frame.
