I’m excited about the prospects for tablet computers, I really am. I would love to have a custom portfolio ready to show potential clients at the drop of a hat. I expect that within 18 months I’ll have a tablet. The industrial design is nearly perfect for airline travel and portability and as long as I don’t have to do any actual work the tablets are pretty damn useful.
At the moment the iPad is the best tablet on the market. I’m guessing that will change as new versions of Android appear on the marketplace. The Android tablets actually have USB support, memory card slots, Flash support and an uncensored browsing experience. Couple those features with the Android open source model as well a lower price and it’s clear to me that the Android tabs will be the best experience for customers. I think it will be rad to have a tablet computer in a car dash that can control the stereo, GPS and communications and who knows what else.

My thoughts exactly. I recently did a side-by-side comparison between the iPad and a Viewsonic g-Tablet. The iPad gets the nod for the straightforward approach to displaying photos – the g-Tab needed one additional step to get to full-sized images. I am (eagerly) awaiting the availability of the 16 GB Archos 101 which seems generally superior to the g-Tab in most ways. I strongly suspect the Archos is the one I will buy. I too actively dislike Apple’s censoring of content and restricting where and how I get my data to my device. No USB? No card-reader? No way. Of course, I like the ($30 add-on) camera connect option the iPad offers. I suspect the market will come to my aid shortly after these Android 2.2 tablets get a footing.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts! Aside: my word verification for this comment is “outimm”, Oh you Timm. *grin*
